A new pinch effect is reported for low-energy electrons in the presence of electrostatic trapping. Towards the collisional end of the plateau regime it is predicted to be significantly larger than the normal neoclassical pinch effect and it will help to explain the anomalous plasma pinching observed in gas-puffing experiments.
