Emphasizing the role of the physics of hot plasmas in modern physics, the Göteborg Conference contained many papers of special interest to the fusion community. The Conference, a joint session of the Fifth Kiev International Conference on Plasma Theory and the Fifth International Conference on Waves and Instabilities in Plasmas, was remarkably broad in its scope and in its participation. Its scientific programme included some 500 papers, among which were 75 invited talks. Its over 460 participants came from 39 countries.
