The first workshop on the ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT) stability theory was held at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, May 13–14, 1981. It was attended by about 80 participants, most of whom are presently working on stability (theory and/or experiment) relevant to the EBT configuration. The purpose of the workshop was to provide a forum for (1) discussion and review of the status of EBT stability theory topics and (2) assessment of the various models used and the importance of modes predicted from these models for the operating regimes of present and future experiments.
