AbstractThe TFTR remote maintenance manipulator is investigated with regard to stability and strength due to operational loads. The stress analysis of the manipulator follows three steps: calculation of global forces with a beam model, calculation of local stresses with finite element models, experimental measurements of stresses with strain gauges. Results of each step are given. The calculated and measured stresses are compared. The measured stresses coincide with the predicted, calculated stress level. At the maximum stressed points the results of the calculations are on the safe side.
