Ion cyclotron instability induced by the trapped-ion mode

The conditions and consequence of the onset of ion cyclotron instabilities in tokamaks that can be induced by the finite amplitude level of the trapped-ion mode are studied. It is found that such oscillations are likely to be present but are not likely to alter the diffusion rates originally predicted by Kadomtsev and Pogutse.
