The influence of a predischarge and of plasma contaminations on the run-away electrons in a toroidal discharge have been investigated experimentally. It was found that impurity ions in the plasma are of no importance. A predischarge reduces drastically the rate of run-away. This is probably due to the initial degree of ionization being larger than 1%.
