Pulse power technology applied to proton beam fusion

Keishiro Niu1999年Fusion Engineering and DesignIF 1.7出版社

AbstractIt is the aim of this paper to design a fusion power plant whose electric output power is 1 GW, and to find a way for breaking through fusion technically and energy-economically. Pulse power supply system of 36 modules, whose stored energy is 46.8 MJ, launches six proton beams, which have the total energy of 12 MJ, pulse width 30 ns, and particle energy of 4 MeV. Because of the low quality of proton beams, the beams are charge-neutralized by the co-moving electron beams. The co-moving electron beam has the net current −50 kA, and the Lorentz force confines the beam in a small radius in the metal guide. The target should be indirect driven and its radius should be large. The target with the radius of 8.7 mm is the spherical cryogenic hollow one, which has double shells and five layers. The reactor has double solid walls. The inner wall rotates around the axis to induce a centrifugal acceleration. Flibe as the coolant protects the solid walls from damage and breeds tritium.
