The pressure produced electric fields inside of an inhomogeneous plasma (internal fields) contribute in the same way as the external fields to the total force density in a plasma, as it is derived in analogy to the forces from plasma waves. The forces due to the pressure produced electric fields can be of the same magnitude as the forces of the gasdynamic pressure in collisionless shock waves.
