The authors investigate the growth of finescale temperature and current filaments due to the thermal or overheating instability. This instability has been suggested as an indirect explanation of the apparently large electron thermal conduction observed in Tokamaks. However, a non-linear, non-local numerical model has been developed which indicates that such an instability could be self-stabilising in a Tokamak.
