AbstractThe reactor engineering tests have been planned for the next fusion engineering facilities. Neutronic parameters, such as neutron fluence, tritium production rate and so on, are essential for the assessment of these test results. From an examination of the present measuring techniques, a liquid scintillation method with samples containing Li atoms was found to be the most suitable for the measurement of the local tritium production rate. The foil activation technique is the best way to estimate the neutron fluence. The multi-foil activation is also useful for the assessment of neutron spectral. A survey calculation was performed using DOT3.5 and a 32-group cross section set to understand the neutronic field in FER blanket test modules and mockup experiments to be planned at the FNS of JAERI.A plan of neutronics experiments using FNS has been proposed to support the engineering tests and to patch the deficit in the test data. The plan has two phases. The object of the first phase is to obtain the data required for the detailed design of the blanket test modules and to simulate both partial and full-coverage blankets. The object of the second phase is to obtain complementary data for the engineering tests. This is a neutronics pre-test, i.e., the exact blanket test module is placed in the test bench at FNS in advance of the tests on site of the next fusion facility.
