Reduction of losses in open-ended magnetic traps

Recent success achieved with mirror-contained plasmas and showing that stable high-beta plasmas can be produced has stimulated new interest in mirror reactors. The confinement will, however, have to be improved in order to make such reactors feasible. In this paper, methods of reducing losses in open-ended traps will be reviewed, with emphasis placed on experimental results.
