The effects of plasma compressibility on the MHD ballooning mode have been investigated in terms of a local kinetic dispersion relation. Compressibility or incompressibility have no influence on the critical ballooning parameter α, and the maximum growth rate occurs when the parallel ion Landau resonance is most active.
