The Fifth International Workshop on Stellarators was held on 24-28 September 1984 at the picturesque Schloss Ringberg (near Lake Tegern, Bavaria) in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was attended by over 70 participants, representing all of the countries active in stellarator research. Proceedings of the workshop have been made available.The recent increase in stellarator research was exemplified by the extension of the meeting time, from 3 days at the preceding biennial meetings in this series to 5 days at the present workshop. The vibrant nature of current stellarator research was indicated by: (1) the progress reported in experiments of all sizes; (2) the entry of new groups into the stellarator area; and (3) very substantial theory efforts plus some reactor studies.
第5回ステラレーター国際ワークショップは、1984年9月24日から28日まで、西ドイツの風光明媚なシュロス・リンクベルク（バイエルン州テーゲルンゼー近郊）で開催された。ステラレーター研究に取り組むすべての国から70名以上の参加者が集まった。ワークショップの議事録は入手可能となっている。ステラレーター研究の最近の増加は、会期が本シリーズの前回までの隔年会合における3日間から、今回の5日間に延長されたことによって例証されている。現在のステラレーター研究の活発な性質は、以下の点によって示された：(1) あらゆる規模の実験において報告された進展；(2) ステラレーター分野への新たな研究グループの参入；および (3) 非常に充実した理論研究の取り組みに加え、いくつかの炉設計研究。
