A simple method is proposed to suppress the breaking of magnetic surfaces which occurs in ℓ = 2 heliotron/ torsatron equilibria. With this method, fairly high beta equilibria with clearly nested magnetic surfaces can be realized without changing other physical properties such as the rotational transform profile and the well depth.
