A new method for the determination of the heat conductivity profile of a Tokamak plasma from measured profiles of temperature and power deposition is presented. The method makes use of Fourier decomposition of the measured profiles. By developing the profiles around an approximation, the heat conductivity profile is expressed as a cosine series of which the coefficients are linear combinations of the Fourier coefficients of the measured profiles. This formulation allows the calculation of the error propagation, and provides a means to automatically compute the heat conductivity with the optimal balance between the statistical and the systematic error.
