Superbanana limiter as a possible edge cooling scheme

A new edge cooling scheme is proposed where energetic impurity atoms are injected into the plasma periphery in which the toroidal-field ripple is vertically asymmetric. Because of the asymmetric ripple, the injected impurity ions form superbananas which drift outwards to the wall, enhancing the radiation cooling in the plasma periphery without impurity accumulation. The impurity beam is thus called a 'superbanana limiter'.
