Sensitivity of a stripping analyser for neutral hydrogen atoms in the energy range from 50 to 300 eV

H.H. Fleischmann, R.G. Tuckfield Jr.1968年被引用 25Nuclear FusionIF 3出版社

The sensitivity of a neutral-hydrogen energy analyser consisting of a gas-stripping cell and an electric ion analyser was investigated in the energy range from 50 to 300 eV. A neutral atom flux is produced by means of a plasma gun and multipole guide field. The density of this flux at the analyser entrance was determined using a calibrated secondary emission detector. The conversion efficiencies of various gases and their pressure dependence was examined. So far the use of oxygen as stripping gas seems to be the optimal choice. However, for all investigated stripping gases the sensitivity was found to be a steep function of the particle energy. This might limit the applicability of this analyser to energies above 100 eV, using the investigated gases for stripping. The overall energy resolution is estimated to be ΔE/E = 10 − 15%.
