Results from a stability analysis of drift cyclotron and lower-hybrid drift instabilities in the presence of magnetic shear are presented. In the case of the lower-hybrid drift modes, including finite electron gyroradius (kρe ≳ 1), we find that low-density systems (ωpe < ωce) are much easier to stabilize with shear than are high-density systems (ωpe > ωce). For drift ion-cyclotron modes, shear reduces the growth rate rather than stabilizing the modes, becoming significant for |Ls/Ln|<(mi/me)1/2 (ρi/|Ln|)1/2.
