It is shown that the vortex lines of an axial shear flow with rotationcan confine spherical regions inside a pinch discharge. Due to their stiffnessagainst deformation, vortex lines can help to stabilize the plasma, with theadditional fluid dynamic confinement reducing the axial energy losses.
