A simple exact method is described for the analysis of mode purity produced inside magnetized plasma as a function of input polarization of the injected electromagnetic wave. The method is applied to experimental results obtained for RF heating on the large helical device (Notake T et al2005 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion47 531).
