The de-stabilizing influence of an equilibrium parallel (to ) current on drift waves in a collisional, sheared slab plasma is investigated. Absolute instability occurs only for currents substantially in excess of those present in most tokamak experiments. Fluctuations in the electron temperature are retained and are found to be essential to the analysis of the current-driven mode.
