A method of generating a helical magnetic configuration for plasma confinement using shaped, magnetically saturated, ferromagnetic material in an intense magnetic field is reconsidered. Although the maximum achievable rotational transform is limited by the maximum magnetic polarization of iron, a sufficiently large rotational transform can be obtained in the case of an ℓ = 2 configuration. The application of this method to the formation of a linked minimum-B configuration is also discussed.
