The stationary potential jump for creating a weak double layer is observed by applying a d.c. potential difference lower than the ionization voltage of the gas between two independently produced discharge plasmas. The additional ionization is avoided by masking the outflow of ionizing electrons in a high potential plasma source. The jump position and the electron drift velocity are discussed.
