The necessity and technical feasibility of a fusion-fission fuel factory for supporting PWR nuclear power stations in China has been investigated both through parametric system studies and some key fusion nuclear technology experiments. The main aim is to study the reality for fuelling an experimental fusion-fission hybrid reactor at the beginning of the next century in China. The study demonstrates that the fusion-fission hybrid reactor has the potential of covering a wider range of reasonable sizes and existing technology than has been considered previously.
