We study the characteristics of self-generated zonal flows as observed innonlinear global gyrokinetic simulations of toroidal ion temperature gradient(ITG) turbulence for typical parameters of DIII-D core plasmas. In addition,we discuss various possibilities for experimental measurements and thedevelopment of new diagnostics.
