The incorporation of a quasi-linear collisional wave damping model of lower hybrid electron heating into a radial transport code reveals favourable prospects for heating tokamak plasmas to ignition. The RF frequencies considered here are such that the wave interaction is primarily with the electrons. For a particular test reactor design, 30 MW of lower hybrid power used in conjunction with a programmed plasma density start-up suffices to initiate a self-sustained thermonuclear burn.
