In some neutral-beam-heated ISX-B plasmas, the Thomson scattering profiles show that of constant temperature and surfaces of constant density do not coincide. This discrepancy is analysed in terms of the modification of the plasma equilibrium arising from toroidal rotation or other enhancements of the toroidal component of the stored energy density.
