Plasma density modulations produced by scattered waves are considered, together with the density modulation due to the ponderomotive force of the primary wave. It is shown that the wave scattering is significantly suppressed by local plasma heating just in front of the grill. The level of generation of higher spatial harmonics is probably too low to fill the well-known spectral gap at the lower hybrid current drive.
