AbstractConsidering the major and minor radii of a tokamak with circular cross-section, as well as the multipole moments analysis method of Zakharov and Safranov, this work describes how the toroidal moments of the plasma current density are determined, which are then used to derive the plasma position. For the experimental stage, we designed and constructed modified Rogowski and saddle coils, which were placed around the Novillo tokamak vacuum vessel. Likewise, the measuring channels, for which the coils are the sensor elements, were analyzed up to the point where a clear relation between the radial and vertical plasma displacements and the channels’ output voltages is obtained. Based on experimental results, we concluded that the displacement of the plasma column is practically along the radial axis. Finally, it has been observed that there is a strong influence of the vertical magnetic field on the plasma column.
