The breeding shield design for the compact technology test reactor TIBER-II is described. The shield allows for tritium self-sufficiency by utilizing a beryllium multiplier zone in the outboard shield and an aqueous solution coolant in which LiNO3 is dissolved. This low-temperature and low-pressure design yields an overall tritium breeding ratio of 1.05 and provides adequate protection for the TF coils. The design features of this breeding shield render it an attractive low-risk candidate for ITER.
