The Second International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-2) was held on April 13-17, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The objective of this conference was to provide an international forum for the exchange of new information and the furtherance of understanding of the science and technology of materials proposed for use in fusion reactors. The international nature of this conference can be seen in the attendance which was composed of 57% from the United States, 24% from the European Community, and 18% from Japan. This conference represented a merging of the three US topical meetings on fusion reactor materials (Miami, January 1979; Seattle, August 1981; and Albuquerque, September 1983) and the First International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials (Tokyo, December 1984). Conference sponsors were the Argonne National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy, with minor sponsorship from the American Nuclear Society and the Nuclear Metallurgy Committee of the AIME and ASM. The technical programme contained a total of 254 technical papers, of which 59 were oral and the balance posterboard presentations. The conference proceedings will be published in a special supplement to the Journal of Nuclear Materials (Volumes 141, 142, and 143).
第2回国際核融合炉材料会議（ICFRM-2）は、1986年4月13日から17日まで、米国イリノイ州シカゴで開催された。この会議の目的は、核融合炉での使用が提案されている材料の科学技術に関する新情報の交換と理解の促進のための国際的なフォーラムを提供することであった。この会議の国際性は、参加者の構成にみることができる。すなわち、米国から57%、欧州共同体から24%、日本から18%であった。この会議は、核融合炉材料に関する3つの米国トピカル会議（1979年1月マイアミ、1981年8月シアトル、1983年9月アルバカーキ）と第1回国際核融合炉材料会議（1984年12月東京）との統合を代表するものであった。会議の主催者はアルゴンヌ国立研究所と米国エネルギー省であり、米国原子力学会およびAIMEとASMの核冶金委員会が協賛した。技術プログラムには合計254件の技術論文が含まれ、そのうち59件が口頭発表で、残りはポスター発表であった。会議録は、Journal of Nuclear Materials（第141巻、第142巻、第143巻）の特別補遺として出版される予定である。
