Analytically examines the threshold and the growth rate of stimulated Brillouin backscattering of a large amplitude electromagnetic wave in a neutral plasma consisting of electrons, positive and negative ions. The increase in relative number density of negative ions raises the threshold and lowers the growth rate when the pump intensity is either near or well above the threshold. However, in the strong coupling limit where the pump itself determines the dispersion property of the electrostatic idler, the growth rate is not affected significantly by negative ions.
