It is demonstrated that the stability of low n pressure gradient driven modes in stellarators is improvedby local flattening of the pressure at low order rational surfaces. Here n is the toroidal mode number. Results are presented for the Large Helical Device with an inward magnetic axis shift of 25 cm.
