Recent investigations of electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) intokamaks and stellarators are the subject of this paper. Values of ECCDefficiency achieved in different machines are compared with theoreticalpredictions. The role of trapped particles in the reduction of ECCDefficiency is discussed. Recent progress in the measurements of electroncyclotron current profile and in ECCD applications for fullynoninductive operation, current profile control and neoclassical tearingmode stabilization is also reviewed.
