Electron cyclotron heating in NET using the ordinary mode at downshifted frequency

The proposed new scenario of electron cyclotron heating of a tokamak reactor makes use of the low-field-side, normally injected ordinary mode at downshifted frequency. Using the NET parameters, it is shown that the ordinary mode is strongly damped in the central plasma region at an electron temperature in excess of a few keV after reflection by an obliquely oriented mirror located opposite to the launching position. This scheme makes it possible to heat NET with wave sources at frequencies as low as 100-125 GHz at a magnetic field of 6 T, i.e. an electron gyrofrequency of 168 GHz.
