Recently observed asymmetries in the plasma boundary, in a tokamak with a poloidal divertor, are discussed. A kinetic description for such asymmetries in terms of a two-dimensional boundary value problem for plasma in contact with collector plates is given. From the solution of the boundary value problem for double-null and single-null configurations, ion flux and energy flux profiles at the collector surfaces are calculated and compared with the experimental values.
