In the 8-T design-point test with pulse field, the LCT coils were exposed to an external poloidal pulsed field for the first time. The goal of the test was investigation of the cryogenic, mechanical, and electrical impacts on the operation of a large superconducting coil.Considerable effort went into the development of conductor concepts with low losses under operation in external pulsed fields. For the first time, the losses were measured under conditions that were near the operating conditions of a real tokamak magnet system. For some of the coils, measurements of winding displacements and case strains were also performed.Measurements were made only on the JA, EU, and CH coils. A failure in the pulse coil drive mechanism prevented further tests in the remaining coils.
