Analytical approach to lower hybrid ray tracing

A simple mapping for lower hybrid ray trajectories in a tokamak with noncircular cross-section is suggested. This mapping is based on a perturbation treatment of the ray equations modified so that preservation of the phase volume is guaranteed. An explicit formula is presented which describes the wave penetration and the N|| upshift in an elliptical tokamak
