The toroidal current induced by a travelling electron cyclotron wave in a tokamak is estimated, taking into account toroidal-geometry effects. It is found that the anisotropic-resistivity effect is opposed by neoclassical trapped-particle effects away from the centre of the plasma. This leads to a reduction of current generation efficiency toward the outside.
