A method has been developed to calculate the dielectric tensor in a toroidal plasma from a distribution function represented numerically by a discrete set of orbit invariants. Assuming a locally homogeneous plasma, parasitic -particle absorption of the fast magnetosonic wave is studied for different orbit widths in JET-like scenarios. In addition, the beneficial effect observed in JET of introducing a small concentration in second-harmonic tritium heating scenarios is studied.
