Plasma heating in a tandem mirror by ICRH on high-Z minority ions

The use of neutral beam injected high-Z ions as a minority ion intermediary for the efficient transfer of RF heating energy to majority hydrogenic ions is discussed. It is shown that each such stripped high-Z minority ion of charge number q and atomic weight Aq is roughly times more effective for transferring RF energy than minority protons. Other attributes and advantages of the proposal are also discussed.
