In the experiments described the authors measured the lifetime of individual charged particles (electrons) in a steady-state, axially symmetric magnetic mirror trap under certain definite particle injection conditions. The experiments confirmed that when the particles were reflected from the mirrors the change in magnetic moment Δμ/μ relative to the adia-baticity parameter was exponentially small. In the expression for Δμ/μ, the exponent and the pre-exponential factor were found for. an actual Ogra field configuration. Under conditions corresponding to absolute containment of the particles in the trap a marked increase in electron lifetime was observed. An expression was obtained for the change in the magnetic moment of a charged particle passing through a small magnetic field perturbation. The experimental results were found to be in satisfactory agreement with those obtained using this expression.
