Edge transport barrier and Te-profile stiffness in LHD

A mild pedestal has been observed in the large helical device (LHD) discharges. Broad profile pedestal leads to enhancement of the energy confinement. The shapes of the electron temperature profile in the gas puff divertor discharges are very close to parabolic profile, nearly being independent of density, input power and magnetic field. The plasma tends to preserve the temperature scale length (or local shape), ∇T/T even with a large island or during radiative collapse.
