A quick yet robust analysis technique has beendeveloped to interpret measurements from the motional Stark effect (MSE)polarimetry diagnostic. The MSE diagnostic measures the verticalcomponent of the magnetic field (Bz) as a function of the plasmamajor radius. Typically these measurements have been used as aconstraint on a numerical calculation of the plasma equilibrium. Theanalysis technique presented here, which converts the MSE measurementsof Bz to quantities of interest using Maxwell's equations and geometric constraints, has someadvantages over equilibrium reconstruction analysis because it does notintroduce assumptions about the shape of the current profile into theanalysis. Further, the results are available immediately after the MSEdata are collected. Examples of this MSE analysis technique are givenusing recent electron cyclotron current drive experiments on theDIII-D tokamak.
