A drift Alfvén eigenmode having a phase velocity significantly larger than the electron diamagnetic velocity is shown to exist in the tokamak magnetic geometry. For typical ohmical heated tokamak discharges the approximate dispersion relation is.Such a fast drift mode has recently been observed in the TEXT tokamak.
