Field line tracing is used to study the effects of poloidal field coil irregularities on the diverted field lines of a typical single-null divertor in the DIII-D tokamak. Poloidal and toroidal asymmetries result from the field errors with a radial layer Δr ≈ 1 cm of otherwise closed flux surfaces inside the separatrix connected to the divertor 'floor'.
