This biennial meeting is sponsored by the Institute. of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The 13th Symposium on Fusion Engineering was attended by about 450 persons from nine different countries. About 370 technical papers were presented, including 5 plenary talks, 120 oral presentations and 245 poster presentations. The emphasis was on practical results for magnetic and inertial fusion engineering. Also covered were technical results from operating experiments in two invited oral sessions. Other invited oral sessions were devoted to the design status and development issues in next-generation devices (CIT, ITER) and fusion reactors (ARIES).
この隔年会議は、電気電子学会（IEEE）が主催するものである。第13回核融合工学シンポジウムには、9か国から約450名が参加した。約370件の技術論文が発表され、その内訳は基調講演5件、口頭発表120件、ポスター発表245件であった。重点は、磁気核融合および慣性核融合工学に関する実用的な成果に置かれた。また、2つの招待口頭セッションでは、稼働中の実験装置から得られた技術的成果も取り上げられた。他の招待口頭セッションは、次世代装置（CIT、ITER）および核融合炉（ARIES）の設計状況と開発課題に充てられた。
