AbstractThe first wall of fusion reactors is subjected to harsh loading conditions, in terms of neutron irradiation, thermal and mechanical load and surface erosion processes. Special devices have been developed at the High Flux Reactor (HFR) Division in Petten, The Netherlands, to reproduce as close as possible the typical fusion reactor operating conditions to evaluate the real operating limits of the first wall materials. The present article describes on-going irradiations on first wall structural materials.
