Analogue computation of instability growth rates in finite conductivity magnetohydrodynamics

The instability growth rates for a uniformly distributed current in a cylinder of fluid with finite conductivity were computed by analogue computer for comparison with digital computer solutions. The analogue computer does not use the dispersion relation; in view of the very coarse finite differences it used, the order of magnitude agreement is considered satisfactory. The analogue computer is economical in equipment and time for finding roughestimates of the instability growth rates.
