Large sawtooth modulations on the radiance of central nickel ions during injection of hydrogen atoms into deuterium plasmas could not be properly simulated by considering only the changes in the radial profiles of Te and ne. The impurity transport parameters had to be modified during the disruption, leading to expulsion of Ni ions from inside the q = 1 surface.
